Welcome to the new Health Center website!
I hope you find the pages in my site useful in providing nursing information.  Some of the pages will be updated on a regular basis, and some will be changed only rarely. It is my goal to make this a communication tool for your use.  I will do my best to keep it current.

RED RIBBON WEEK: 10/26-10/30   PAWS-ITIVELY DRUG FREE!!

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR HEALTH SCREENING VOLUNTEERS!! A SPECIAL THANKS TO THE MALTZ AND THE ROBBINS FAMILIES FOR PLANNING AND ORGANIZING AND ORCHISTRATING THE EVENT!!

H1N1 FLU  PLEASE KEEP CHILDREN WITH FEVERS AND BODY ACHES HOME for AT LEAST 24 hours AFTER the fever resolves!! We have had new documented cases in the school community. In addition to fevers and body aches many children are experiencing nausea and vomiting.

Aspirin or aspirin-containing products (e.g. bismuth subsalicylate – Pepto Bismol) should not be administered to any confirmed or suspected ill case of novel influenza A (H1N1) virus infection aged 18 years old and younger due to the risk of Reye syndrome. For relief of fever, other anti-pyretic medications are recommended such as acetaminophen or non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Check ingredient labels on over-the-counter cold and flu medications to see if they contain aspirin.

    • Teenagers with the flu can take medicines without aspirin, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol®) and ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®, Nuprin®), to relieve symptoms.
    • Children younger than 4 years of age should not be given over-the-counter cold medications without first speaking with a healthcare provider.

Please be aware that HEADLICE are an ongoing concern and check your children frequently, especially if they are itching!!
Yes we have had cases of head lice in school already this year! See the Lice link for further information about detection and treatment or call me.

All Families: If your child receives a vaccination please bring a copy of the shot record or a receipt listing the vaccine to me so the health record can be updated.

5th/6th/7th grade parents-your student will need a TDAP and MCV shot within two weeks of turning 11years old when they are 6th or 7th graders. The state has changed it's policies and these shots may now be given prior to 11 years but no earlier than 10 years old so ask your doctor at your next office visit. Please show proof of TDAP and MCV shots ASAP after your child's 11th birthday.
